The Sweeney 5: What to Plan for Your Weekend (20.11.15)
Welcome to the Sweeney 5: our Friday shortlist of some great things to make your weekend that little bit more Sweeney. This weekend (as ever) there’s plenty going on around London, but as the festive season rapidly approaches, we’re starting to think about getting everything sorted out, so we’ve selected the best Christmas market in London, as well as a few other places to check out. A Christmas tip (if it’s not too early): museum gift shops are always a great place to find unusual presents.
Cycle Revolution at the Design Museum
It’s no secret at Sweeney that the Cobbler-in-Chief (and the rest of us) are partial to a bit of cycling. Combined with the Design Museum and we have an exhibition that’s pretty unmissable. Celebrating the diversity of contemporary cycling, it incorporates everything from a vintage ’69 Chopper to Bradley Wiggins’ 2015 Hour Record bike from earlier this year, plus a bike builder’s workshop installation and some legendary competition bikes from riders like Merckx, Moser and Boardman.

The Scandi Market
If the rush of bargain-hunting in the Black Friday sale next weekend isn’t enough, then it’s time to immerse yourself in some properly festive activities. The Scandi market is one of the most tasteful stone island jumper xl of the season, blending classic Nordic design with festive touches, and it always manages to toe the line between arty and twee. Definitely a good place to get your season started.

A double dose of photography exhibitions
This season’s photography theme has been a really rich seam of inspiration for everyone at Sweeney, and as the year itself draws to a close, the end of year competitions and exhibitions round up the best photography talent the country has to offer. First up, the Landscape Photographer of the year exhibition comes to Waterloo, and is a true oasis of calm in one of the world’s busiest stations. The World Press Photographer exhibition is just around the corner at the Southbank Centre, and shows the best shots from the frontline of news. Appropriately it’s a global exhibition (at more than 100 locations across the world), but it’s also thought-provoking and inspiring at the same time.

Le Bun at Zetter
On the surface, French and American food might not have much in common, but in practice there’s plenty that unites them. Cheese, mostly – but also a superlative selection of meats and a shared love for sizeable portions. United by chefs Tim Talbot and Andy Taylor, Le Bun is street food that’s endorsed by the likes of Gizzi Erskine and was named by Shortlist as ‘Best New Street Food Trader’. Our pick is their Le Bourginon Bun that’s earned them a cult following among the vibrant London food scene and has to be tried to be believed.
