RUN GEORDIE RUN Around the world
There are lower than 3 months earlier than the massive run. It is time, only for a second, to take a step again from all of the coaching, organising, pestering, dreaming and planning and take inventory of issues.
This event has offered me with 4 primary challenges; organising it, coaching for it, sponsoring it and working it. The organisation of the run has gone nearly a hundred% to plan so far. I have never managed to accumulate the camper van that will have solved all of my accommodation problems in one fell swoop. I’ve, however, managed to get some very low-cost and sometimes free “digs” with the assistance, imagination and generosity of colleagues and pals. To date, I’ve bought 24 nights of “quality” accommodation. This leaves 18 nights sleeping in a tent in each the Scottish highlands and later in Devon and Cornwall. These 18 nights coincide with help from my spouse and son – Katy and Jack (and not forgetting Monkey after all!). It needs to be an interesting family experience to say the least! My different supporters, Keith and Owen, have put their arms into their own pockets for digs. I owe them a beer or two after the run when i start drinking once more (My final beer was New Yr’s Eve!). Talking of assist, I’ve all but four days of the run supported. I must finalise help for these four days very soon or I face the prospect of working 96 miles solo! Heaven is aware of how that will work out.
I am currently giving thought to the changeover arrangements needed when one supporter finishes and another starts their duties. I do really feel that I am nearly there on the organisation front.
My training for the run has gone far much better than I would anticipated and my health is probably the least space for concern. I am running quicker than I have for a long time and additional than ever before. Other than a sore groin lasting a few days and a foul again attributable to carrying 2 litres of water for fifty one miles there’s hardly been the hint of an harm. I’ve mentioned it many instances before and I believe it’s price emphasising again. The assist and encouragement from my colleagues at Northern Rock has been key to the progress I’ve made in coaching. Again, I believe a few beers are so as when i return, God keen, from the south coast in August.
I set an unprecedented and really formidable sponsorship goal of £5000 for this occasion. On the time of writing, I’ve achieved 51% of that concentrate on. In my school days, that might have been enough to get you a move in an exam. I’m after an A+ this time spherical and nothing lower than £5000 will do for the pain I’m about stone islands to place myself by. I’ve nonetheless bought loads of avenues to pursue and remain ever assured of reaching this target in help of St Benedict’s Hospice.
And finally we come to actually operating the factor. How on earth is a human being presupposed to run that far in 6 weeks Particularly a 16 stone one! I’m resigned to the truth that it’s going to harm like mad. I will be ready for the pain figuring out I am backed by so many people, pledging cash, for such a fantastic cause as St Benedict’s Hospice. One thing is for sure. This is a real step into the unknown for me. It doesn’t examine to something I’ve ran earlier than. I could really do with something like a “Operating 900 miles for Dummies” book.
