The elements: the column and three scroll ft with elaborate moulding, with turquoise and tangerine ground colour with matt and burnished gold highlights, the top has an openwork Rococo edge, painted with varied birds together with hummingbirds pursuing insects towards a blue sky floor, bordered by a wreath of roses. The painting method is most unusual, being nearer to a watercolor method than the more standard oil painting style. The body is very white and dense probably as a result of underfiring the exhausting paste porcelain to reduce the risk of warping. It does not have the characteristics of earthenware. Made in several pieces, it is held together with a protracted bolt with leather-based washers at each junction. It comes apart for safer transport. Prime has been cracked and riveted at an early date, probably as a consequence of warping at time of manufacture. See picture for the rivets underneath, and the 1 large and 1 small crack to the top. There are 4 staples used in the restoration. The massive crack seems to have been a firing fault, as it is not quite flush at the top.
